BAROQUE – The most fascinating organic gem!
In my other post, I talked about baroque pearls and how they have become the latest craze for all fashionistas these days. Baroque pearl has been in style for the past couple of years. I love pearls but when I first saw these oddly shaped pearls, it didn’t catch my attention right away. I have regular pearls of different shapes and sizes but what are these? Couldn’t remember seeing these before. Had to get few earrings to start with and it didn’t take long to fall in love with these pearls.
So what exactly are Baroque pearls? It’s actually a term that is used to describe irregular and non-symmetrically shaped pearls that have been formed in freshwater mussels and saltwater oysters. They are known for their irregular, uneven shapes, are attractive and versatile; in fact, you can use them to complement nearly any ensemble. Many of these types of pearls have spectacularly unique shapes, which makes each piece a one-of-a-kind creation. Baroque pearls are some of the most fascinating organic gems available on the jewelry market. They are the absolute opposite of traditional pearls because each one has its very own shape and size.
The most valuable of baroque pearls are the South Sea and Tahitian pearls. These pearls are produced by black-lipped oysters or the gold-lipped and white-lipped oysters. These are a variety of cultured saltwater pearls. The shape of a baroque saltwater pearl is caused by the uneven deposition of nacre by the oyster around its nucleus.
They say that history and fashion repeats itself. ‘Barocco’ (in Italian or Portuguese) means ‘imperfect’ and was in style in the late 1500 and early 1600 for the royalty. It is no longer exclusive to royalty and now back in style and affordable for all of us.
So how do you exactly pair this gorgeous and versatile piece of jewelry? Pair it with your cocktail dress or add a little flair to your everyday outfit. It’s classy yet funky in its own way. Wearing inexpensive pearls adds instant affordable glamour.
Start out with a pair of earrings and if you haven’t fallen in love by then, let’s talk!
